POKOTABI / Tendako
天だこ
Tendako in Arakawa pairs freshly grilled takoyaki with vibrant Thai specialties like tom yum goong and green curry. Open from midday until late, it suits solo diners and takeout runs alike.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Despite the octopus-dumpling hint in its shop sign, opening the menu at Tendako in Arakawa 5-chome reveals a full lineup of authentic Thai specialties. Run by a welcoming husband-and-wife team, the casual izakaya invites diners to set freshly made takoyaki alongside fragrant, spiced Thai plates on the very same table.
The Thai selection is extensive. The tom yum goong stands out, generously loaded with prawns and aromatics, striking a vibrant balance of sharp acidity and chili heat. For rice options, there are substantial servings of khao man gai (steamed chicken over seasoned rice) and richly spiced green curry, while noodle cravings are answered by Thai-style stir-fried noodles and soup noodles. Starters such as green papaya salad, glass noodle salad, and fresh spring rolls offer plenty of herbal brightness to accompany drinks.
Beyond Thai braises and stir-fries, the kitchen turns out a steady rotation of casual drinking snacks, including garlic-fried pork, garlic spare ribs, deep-fried chicken cartilage, and Thai fish cakes. Guests can settle into an easy izakaya rhythm with draft beer, chuhai, oolong tea highballs, or shochu mixed with cold or hot water.
Tendako runs straight through from 12:00 in the afternoon until 24:00 late at night, making it equally dependable for a hearty lunch, an afternoon bite, or a drink after work. Both solo sit-down meals and takeout orders are welcome, so you can easily carry dishes home for a quick lunch or late-night supper. Payment is cash only, so be sure to have yen on hand before taking a seat.
